43. Save $50 per month – Use the internet to shop for the cheapest products
This article describes ways for you to save money by using the internet.
You can surf for products on the internet for cheapest prices (instead of shopping in department stores buying the electronics), get discounts on grocery products, rebates, get coupons, find out discounted products for stores (like Wallmart offers on the internet). Like if you choose to buy a flat-screen this year for $1,000, you may find the same model for $200 less or find rebates or discounts at several stores for $200, that’s $15 per month saved. Or you can regularly shop for the lowest insurance rates on car, mortgage, health.
Find tax deductions and tax credits. Find new rates on mortgage rates, shop for lower utility bills, like low-cost internet, cable, energy. Shop for the lowest cost second-hand cars on the internet or leased car deals instead of going to a car dealership. Find new ways on the internet to save money.
Look on the internet for college grants, government subsidies.
Find cheapest gas stations in the neighborhood, see GasBuddy.com. Cheap places to go out for dinner. Get cheap vacation deals on the internet or book a cheap vacation instead of going through a travel agency. Shop for higher-paying jobs or other jobs in your neighborhood that pays more than your current job or a new job you could do. Check for a new place on a foreclosure website, like foreclosurefreesearch.com.
Also when making purchases, check a store’s online price before you go in to the store. Sometimes, the online price is cheaper than the store price. So just have the store match their online price.
Shop the outlets. Also, check online because sometimes you can get coupon books from the outlet itself – my friends and I live near Clinton outlets in CT and we printed out their online coupon and went to their office and got a coupon book that saved us 10-20% off at almost every store we went to. I got T-shirts at the Gap for 50% off, plus 10% off that – 6 T-shirts for $35. I’m set for summer. Also, ask the sales people – they can turn you onto the good stuff that’s a great deal.
What about making sure that when you buy something on the internet you receive cashback using cashbackchart.com. (DR: You could also use cash back credit cards.)
Always ask for fees to be waived. Any time you sign up for a service of any kind and there are sign-up fees, ask for them to be waived. Sometimes (but not always), they will be – and you save money just by being forthright about not wanting to pay excessive fees. I did this with my last cell phone sign-up and got part of my fees waived, cutting down significantly on the bill.
My newspaper is on line for a savings of $115.

You may still be asking yourself ‘Why do I even need a budget?’ The problem in not having a detailed budget is that it is very difficult to keep track of and remember all our financial decisions. This can lead to overspending, problems with debt, and even an inability to adequately plan for your financial future. Once you have a household budget, you will be able to have a clear picture of how much money you have and where it all goes. You will then be able to change you spending habits if necessary to make sure all necessary items are covered and cut back on other items to be able to save more money towards you financial goals.
Having a proper budget will allow you to:
- Determine where all your money goes
- Save more money towards your future dreams and goals
- Learn more about money management and personal finance
- Experience freedom knowing that everything is accounted for
- Optimize your spending

Slow down your internet service. I went to the slower internet service option with my cable company and saved $15 per month. And I haven’t noticed a difference when surfing the Net.
Quit writing checks to pay bills. Almost every bank offers a reasonable online bill payment solution now, and if yours doesn't, you can easily switch. Aside from the time and postage savings, you end up with a more real-time view of your income and expenses. You can't improve what you can't measure, and online bill payment really shows you how well (or not) you are doing with your budget.
